Created in 1989, as a memorial to Steve Lawson, brother of Rabbi Marty Lawson, of Temple Emanu-El, in San Diego, California, this window is a vision of the Tree of Life, standing beside a river.  The river is actually a Torah scroll which rolls out into the landscape of Jewish History.  On the scroll are etched the "ten utterances," i.e. the phrases which God used to create the Universe.   A rock, which supports the Torah, is inscribed with the name Steve Lawson, because he was a supporter of Torah.  The Tree of Life, itself, bears both grapes and figs and, entwined in it's leaves, may be found the serpent.  On the trunk of the tree the single word, "Da'at," (knowledge), is written.  The hummingbird was a favorite of Steve's, as well as the poppies and the tomato vine. An inscription, at center, reads, "In loving memory, Steve Lawson."
